Overview
Meniscus repair preserves the knee's shock-absorbing cartilage by stitching a tear back together, protecting the joint against future arthritis when the tear is repairable.
What the Procedure Involves
- Arthroscopic repair of the torn meniscus with sutures
- Chosen when the tear location and pattern can heal
- Performed through small incisions
- Outpatient procedure
Who It's For
- Repairable meniscus tears, especially in younger, active patients
- Tears in the better-vascularized outer meniscus
- Preserving the meniscus to protect the knee long-term
Recovery & Rehabilitation
A brace and limited deep bending protect the repair for several weeks while it heals, longer than a trim. Return to sport is typically 5–6 months.
