Overview
Distal biceps repair reattaches the ruptured biceps tendon to the radius bone at the elbow, restoring the strength to bend the elbow and turn the palm up.
What the Procedure Involves
- Reattachment of the tendon to the radial tuberosity with an anchor or button
- Performed through one or two small incisions at the front of the elbow
- Outpatient procedure
Who It's For
- Complete distal biceps tendon ruptures
- Active patients wanting to restore lifting and rotation strength
- Prompt treatment (ideally within a few weeks) gives the best result
Recovery & Rehabilitation
A hinged brace protects the repair while extension is advanced gradually, with resisted lifting avoided for 6–8 weeks. Return to full lifting and sport is typically 4–5 months.
