Overview
De Quervain's release relieves painful thumb-side wrist tendons by opening the tight compartment they pass through, allowing them to glide freely.
What the Procedure Involves
- Opening of the first dorsal compartment to free the thumb tendons
- Performed through a small incision at the wrist
- A short outpatient procedure
Who It's For
- Thumb-side wrist pain that persists despite splinting and injection
- Catching or triggering of the thumb tendons
- Symptoms limiting gripping and lifting
Recovery & Rehabilitation
A soft dressing or splint is used briefly with early thumb and wrist motion. Most patients return to activity quickly, with strengthening over the following weeks.
