Overview
Achilles tendon repair reconnects the ruptured tendon that powers push-off, restoring calf strength and the ability to walk, run, and rise onto the toes.
What the Procedure Involves
- Reconnection of the torn tendon ends with strong sutures
- Performed through a standard or minimally invasive incision
- Protected positioning to allow healing
- Outpatient procedure
Who It's For
- Complete Achilles tendon ruptures
- Active patients seeking to restore push-off strength
- Selected on an individual basis versus non-operative treatment
Recovery & Rehabilitation
The ankle is protected in a boot with heel wedges that are gradually reduced, progressing weight-bearing and then strengthening. Return to running and sport is typically 6–9 months.
