Overview
Elbow arthritis is cartilage loss and the formation of loose bodies and spurs within the joint, causing pain, catching, and progressive loss of motion. It may follow prior injury or years of heavy use.
Common Symptoms
- Pain at the ends of motion
- Catching or locking from loose bodies
- Progressive stiffness
- Grinding with movement
Causes & Risk Factors
- Prior fracture or injury
- Repetitive heavy use
- Osteoarthritis or inflammatory arthritis
Treatment Options
- Injections and activity modification
- Physical therapy
- Arthroscopic debridement and loose-body removal
- Joint replacement in advanced cases
Recovery & What to Expect
Arthroscopic treatment can relieve catching and improve motion. Recovery depends on the procedure, with therapy restoring function over weeks to months.
