Overview
Carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of the median nerve as it passes through the wrist, producing numbness, tingling, and grip weakness. It is one of the most common nerve conditions and often worsens at night.
Common Symptoms
- Numbness and tingling in the thumb, index, and middle fingers
- Night-time symptoms that wake you
- Weak grip or dropping objects
- Aching that can radiate up the forearm
Causes & Risk Factors
- Repetitive hand and wrist use
- Wrist anatomy and swelling
- Pregnancy, diabetes, or thyroid conditions
- Prior wrist injury

- Night splinting and activity modification
- Anti-inflammatory measures

Recovery & What to Expect
Early cases often respond to splinting and injection. Release surgery is a short outpatient procedure with rapid relief of night symptoms and a return to activity over a few weeks.
